Sisuvatika
The curriculum for the Sisuvatika (Nursery School) is so planned as to realize the objectives , we have set before us. In the Sisuvatika , more than in any other type of schools, we have not given emphasis for instruction , but rather on growth and living. The physical , mental , social and emotional aspects of growth require greater emphasis than the purely educational because “educational maturity follows in the wake of physical and psychological maturity...”
Therefore, Sisuvatika is not based on any rigid syllabus as in the later stages of education. A syllabus is necessary for formal, systematic instruction, when different 'subjects' are taught. Based on this line of thinking, we can list the main activities and indicate some of the ways in which the objectives can be realized. The main activities which can place in any Sisuvatika are: Play, Story telling, Singing and dancing, Dramatization, Drawing and planting, Hand work, Nature study, Language Number. We must desist from elaborating all these activities, and confine this discussion to three of the most important ones among them- Play, language, and Number...
